ABCollege Honors Founder’s 127th Birth Anniversary

The whole ABCollege community gathered together to honor the 127th birth anniversary of Andres Bonifacio College’s founder Amando B. Amatong during the commemoration program of the Founder’s Day Celebration last February 6, 2019.

The first part of the activity kicked-off with a Diana at 4:00 AM around Dipolog City. This was followed by the second part of the celebration, which was a Commemoration program. It started with a floral offering at the memorial site of the founder at the Catholic Cemetery. The streets of Dipolog City were filled with a festive vibe through the Foot Parade led by the ABCollege elementary, high school, and college bands. One of the highlights of the said celebration is the launching of the visual art exhibit entitled, “Art for Global Interaction: A Visual Art Exhibit” at the Exhibition Lobby, Ground Floor, Graduate and Professional Schools (GPS) Building – an annual component of the Founder’s Day Celebration, and was participated by local artists around the Province. A thanksgiving mass was celebrated at the Amando B. Amatong Civic Center, and was officiated by Rev. Father Cesar Tinga (Diocese of Dipolog Chancellor). Dr. Bless C. Amatong-Dadula gave her message as a representative of the Amatong Family. The ceremony ended with the singing of the Founder’s Hymn (accompanied by the college band).

The third part of the celebration highlighted the Research and Extension Agenda Presentation of Research and Extension Director, Dr. Asterio P. Saliot, during the afternoon of February 6. Dr. Saliot also conducted an Orientation on Urban Gardening. In addition, Miss Leila A. Amatong presented the College’s Family Welfare Program, and this was enriched by an Information Drive by the Social Security System Acting Branch Head, Mr. Enrico C. Flores, Jr..

Part four of the celebration was the Engineering Days held at the Science and Technology (Sci-Tech) lobby from February 6-8, 2019. This event showcased exhibits of student outputs from the Civil Engineering, Electrical
Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering Programs at the Sci-Tech building lobby and at the Physics Laboratory. Engineering student organizations set-up booths outside of the Sci-Tech building to sell food packs and other items for income generation. Additionally, the third-year students held activities such as the Amazing Race and Videoke Challenge. An Inter-School Math Quiz was also held on February 8, which was participated by representatives from different colleges around Dipolog City.

The Research and Extension Outreach at Barangay Sta. Isabel, Dipolog City last February 8, 2019 served as the fifth part of the entire 127 th Founder’s Day celebration. The Research and Extension Office spearheaded the
Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing between the Andres Bonifacio College President, Mr. Sancho S. Amatong, and Barangay Sta. Isabel Captain, Hon. Rodel C. Enero. The MOA signing event aims to strengthen the linkage between ABCollege and Barangay Sta. Isabel as the College’s adopted barangay. Councilors Hon. Imelda Endab, College of Arts
and Sciences Dean/Councilor Hon. Demetrio Martus, Dr. Asterio P. Saliot, Mr. Julius B. Elopre (Acting Vice President for Academic Affairs / DASAS Director), Atty. Cheryl Angela P. Barbaso (Dean, School of Law), and Mrs. Precy Nelia C. Gilaga (Dean, School of Nursing) graced the event. An intermission number was presented by the Junior High School Talents Unlimited. Mrs. Hanna Rica O. Cuenca (Guidance Advocate) and Mr. Kimberlou M. Danao (Supreme Student Government President) hosted this momentous event.

School of Law Legal Aid Clinic

The students of the School of Law gave a lecture through their Legal Aid Clinic after the signing of the MOA. This was for the benefit of women, barangay tanod, and other concerned citizens of barangay Sta. Isabel. On the other hand, the student nurses and clinical instructors catered to the residences who would like their vital signs assessed. They were given free services like blood pressure-taking, BMI monitoring, and health counseling.

The Health Promotion Program was also simultaneously held by the Health Services Office (headed by Dean Precy Nelia C. Gilaga) and the School Clinic (headed by Dr. Alma I. Naraga), where Clinical Instructors and student
nurses conducted health lectures about proper nutrition and regular physical activity at the Sta. Isabel Elementary School. This was also supplemented by a Feeding Program at the same venue, and was sponsored by the elementary, junior high school, and senior high school departments. (Amie Rose Lacaya)
