Sancho Sybico Amatong was the fourth of the eight children of Amando Borja Amatong and Felicidad Mabanag Sybico. The fourth President of the Andres Bonifacio College, his administration and tenure was marked by an ambitious and comprehensive program to upgrade the College campus and its facilities. The buildings constructed under President Sancho’s leadership are much more than places to study, work, be entertained or provide landmarks for Dipolog City. These physical structures are a reflection of his persistence, courage, and focus.
President Sancho’s goal was clear and simple: empower students through education. Every decision he made for the College, he made with this goal in mind. Hence, even with a limited budget, through his perseverance he expanded the campus to what we have today. His intent was always to provide his students with as many opportunities as he could. This is reflected in the construction of the Science and Technology Building, the Arts, Graduate and Professional Schools Building, the Model Farm, and the recently completed High School Building.
In challenging times such as ours – volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous – President Sancho showed us courage in action. No matter how things have changed; at times, even beyond recognition, his commitment to delivering quality education never wavered. The buildings that now make up the Andres Bonifacio College campus remain as physical reminders of that commitment.
President Sancho knew that education has the capability to empower people and to provide them with a wealth of knowledge that can never be taken away. But he also knew that determination and focus were just as essential. He understood that one had to be courageous enough to continuously work towards their goals and to never give up.
The true legacy of President Sancho is one of service to the students and community that were so dear to him. Every step he took embodied the core values of the institution he represented; that of Intelligence, Industry, and Integrity.
Mahinumdoman ka namo, President Sancho!
